Martin Freeman in The Hobbit Director Peter Jackson confirmed that The Hobbit will now be split into three movies due to the expansiveness of the Hobbit story. Although The Hobbit was intended to be two parts, Peter Jackson announced on Monday that The Hobbit will be split into three movies as a trilogy.
